Rapid City, SD 1/19/10 - The Amarillo Gorillas could not handle Rapid City's two-goal third period, losing 3-2 Tuesday night.
The Gorillas found the back of the net early in the contest, as forward Erik Felde snapped his shot past CHL "goaltender of the week" Danny Battochio for his fourth goal of the season at the 3:01 mark. Former Gorilla Scott Wray answered for Rapid City less than two minutes later, scoring on a wrap around chance. End of one period of play, Amarillo 1 Rapid City 1.
Captain Gordon Bell jump-started the Gorillas play in the second period, scoring a minute and thirty-six seconds into the frame. Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown played a stellar period, stopping all 15 Rush shots on goal. Amarillo 2 Rapid City 1 after two periods of play.
Rapid City forward Luke Erickson brought his "A" game to the third period, scoring twice. Erickson notched his eleventh goal of the season on the power-play at the 8:34 mark and then scored the game-winner with 1:25 remaining. Final score Rapid City 3 Amarillo 2.
With his second-period goal, forward Gordon Bell has 4 points over his last 4 games.Chris Cloud's second period assist was his third point over his last 4 contests.Amarillo goaltender Mike Brown made a season-high 46 saves.
Amarillo will finish their 3-game series versus the Rapid City Rush tomorrow, January 20th. The game broadcast will start 7:25pm CST and can be followed on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV. Fans will have an opportunity to win an autograph photo of their favorite Gorillas players during the second period by answering a trivia question on the Gorillas' Facebook page.
