Odessa Stays #1 On Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll

January 19, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

(Tempe, Arizona) - Once again, the Odessa Jackalopes (28-6-3) have claimed the top spot on the Yellowbook CHL Coaches Poll making it a perfect run thus far in the 2009-10 regular season for the Southern Conference leaders. Odessa has widened the gap over the teams chasing them now leading by 24 points over the #2 team, the Colorado Eagles (23-7-3). The Jacks have a seven point lead over their closest competition, the Allen Americans (#4).

The biggest competition in the most recent poll is for the #2, #3 and #4 spots as just one point separates each position. The Eagles, the Rapid City Rush and the Americans sit in those three positions respectively. There was no movement in the current poll as it relates to the first to seventh spot but the last three teams in the top 10 moved around some with the Mississippi RiverKings moving up from #10 to #8 and the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees falling from #8 to #9.

The expansion Missouri Mavericks have cracked the top 10 by reaching the.500 mark for the first time in the expansion team's brief history. The lone team exiting the poll was the Tulsa Oilers who fell from the #9 spot to missing the poll by six points.

The Jacks received 13 first place votes with the Eagles and Rush receiving the other two first place votes (teams are unable to vote for themselves).
