Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Broomfield, CO 1/8/08 - The Amarillo Gorillas were beat by the Rocky Mountain Rage for the second time in two weeks, by a final score of 5-2 at the Broomfield Events Center on Wednesday Night. The Gorillas were here last week on Thursday night, and were turned aside 3-1 by the team with the best record in the entire Central Hockey League, who has now beaten the Gorillas four times in four tries this season.

In a replay from last week's contest, the Gorillas would hop out to a 1-0 lead off of a goal from Trevor Read. The veteran defenseman's second goal of the season at 5:58 of the second period put Amarillo on top for the first and last time of the game. Rocky Mountain would get a pair of goals before the second frame came to a close, with Brent Cullaton and Chip Dunleavy scoring to put the Rage on top 2-1 after the second.

In period three, the Gorillas would come out with intensity and tie the game 2-2 with Jason Chafe's power-play goal at 5:37 of the period. Chafe returned to the lineup for the first time since November 24th, having been sidelined with an injury for the past six weeks. Amarillo would continue putting the pressure on Rage net-minder Guy St. Vincent, but they could not pull ahead at any point, and eventually it was the Rage who would take the lead as Trevor Weisgerber scored at 14:47 to put Rocky Mountain on top for good. The Rage would add a goal from Scott Wray, and an empty netter from Damien Rycroft to send the Gorillas home with their eighteenth loss of the year.

Dan McWhinney was in net for the Gorillas, turning aside 25 of 29 shots in the losing effort, as his counterpart St. Vincent got the win making 35 saves on 37 shots. Amarillo was 1-5 on the power-play, while the home team went 0-2.

The Gorillas will head home for a pair of games at the Amarillo Civic Center this weekend, taking on the Corpus Christi Rayz on Friday night, and the Odessa Jackalopes on Saturday.
