Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Central Hockey League announced today that the Rocky Mountain Rage's Brent Cullaton will serve as team captain for the Northern Conference at the CHL All-Star Game next Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Broomfield Event Center.
Jeff Bes of the Laredo Bucks was named team captain for the Southern Conference. The captains were selected by the game's head coaches, Tracy Egeland of Rocky Mountain (Northern Conference Head Coach) and Marco Pietroniro of the Arizona Sundogs (Southern Conference Head Coach).
Cullaton, who also captains and is a player/assistant coach for the Rage, will be playing in his third CHL All-Star Game next week. The Petawawa, Ontario, native is tied for fifth in the league with 44 points and leads the CHL with 38 assists. He appeared in both of his previous CHL All-Star Games (2004, 2005) as a member of the Laredo Bucks, whom he helped lead to President's Cup titles in 2003-04 and 2005-06.
"While there were certainly other deserving candidates, in the end, picking Brent to wear the 'C' for the North was an easy choice," said Egeland. "He's been the heart and soul of our club ever since he arrived this summer, and he's a major reason why we're still leading the league in winning percentage."
Cullaton's former teammate, Bes, will also be playing in his third CHL All-Star Game (2004, 2006). The Tillsonburg, Ontario, native currently leads the league with 55 points and 23 goals. His +33 rating is also tops in the CHL. Bes scored four goals in the 2006 All-Star Game, earning him Southern Conference MVP honors. He has totaled four goals and three assists in his two previous All-Star appearances.
Tonight, Rocky Mountain kicks-off its final week of action before the All-Star Break when the club hosts the Amarillo Gorillas at Broomfield Event Center at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for the game are on sale now with prices ranging from $18-$43 per seat (parking included). Fans can purchase tickets at Broomfield Event Center's box office or through Ticketmaster by logging-on to www.Ticketmaster.com, calling (303) 830-TIXS, or visiting any Ticketmaster retail outlet.
The Rage will host the 2008 CHL All-Star festivities on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 15 and 16, at Broomfield Event Center. The All-Star Banquet, which is open to the public, will be held on the 15th. The banquet features the introduction of the two All-Star Teams plus a performance by Denver resident and 2005 Last Comic Standing winner Josh Blue. The All-Star Game will be played on the 16th, when the Northern and Southern Conferences will square-off in a battle for supremacy between the most talented players in the league.
