Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (March 25th) - The Annual Wichita Thunder Alumni Game took place this past weekend and was a huge success. Leading the charge for the Thunder were Jack Williams and Joe Blaznek, who each recorded goals in the losing effort as the Junior Thunder won 8-6 on Saturday night. Jack McClelland paced the Junior squad with four points as a late push from the Alumni was squashed with an empty-netter. All-in-all, the game was very competitive and the fans enjoyed the experience.
"It's always an exciting time to skate in front of the loyal Thunder fans and see some great people," commented Scott Rozendal, who scored a goal in the contest. "It's not everyday you can see friends that you played with, share some laughs and enjoy the game! It's always a first class event and brings back some great memories with some close teammates."
The Junior Thunder grabbed an early lead behind the line of Jack and Max McClelland and Zac Boyle. Jack, Max and Matt played well with their father watching from a distance. The sons of Head Coach Kevin McClelland helped to push the lead to 3-0 before the Alumni got on the board. Smokin' Joe Blaznek cut the lead to one and the contest headed to the first half tied at three.
The game was a back-and-forth battle in the second half as the Junior Thunder pulled out to a 7-4 advantage. The Alumni pulled its goalie with two minutes left and got the game within one. They had several chances from in-close, but Jake Larson for the Junior Thunder kept the puck out of the net. The Juniors scored an empty netter with 15 seconds remaining to seal the game, 8-6. Brad Link took the loss for the Alumni squad.
Wichita heads on the road for the final week of the regular season starting next Wednesday against the Arizona Sundogs at 8:35 p.m.
