GLENDALE, AZ (March 25, 2014) - The Missouri Mavericks have won the Bud Poile Governors' Cup as the Central Hockey League's regular season points champions.

The Mavericks capture their first regular season title thanks to an impressive 8-0 win in front of 5,618 fans at the Independence Events Center over the St. Charles Chill. The Mavericks improve to 44-17-2 and their 90 points are seven better than the second place club (Denver).

Missouri's Opening Round opponent has yet to be determined but regardless, the Mavs earn home-ice advantage for as long as they are in the playoffs. The Mavericks are celebrating their fifth anniversary season and now, their fifth consecutive post-season appearance. Missouri advanced to the conference finals in each of the last two seasons losing in seven games both times (2012 to Fort Wayne and 2013 to Allen).

In regular season play, the Mavericks are 186-113-26 (.612 win percentage) in 325 all-time CHL games. Scott Hillman has served as the team's head coach since their inaugural season and his 186 CHL wins ranks 16th on the all-time wins list.

As a player, Hillman was a member of the 2001-02 regular season champion Odessa Jackalopes and Missouri players Sebastien Thinel and Mike Ramsay were members of the 2009-10 Governors' Cup winning Odessa club.

The Governor's Cup carries the name of Norman Robert "˜Bud' Poile who served the hockey world as a player, coach, general manager and league executive. Prior to his retirement in 1989, the late Bud Poile served as the President of the Central Hockey League.
