Almonte, Consuegra's Home Runs Not Enough as Cyclones Fall to BlueClaws, 11-6

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, 11-6, Sunday afternoon at Maimonides Park. Brooklyn took a 6-5 lead into the ninth, but surrendered six runs in the ninth after a lengthy weather delay. The loss marks Brooklyn's second straight. DH Abraham Almonte and RF Stanley Consuegra both homered in the loss.

Brooklyn got things started in the bottom of the first with a solo blast off the bat of Almonte. The home run marks Almonte's first during his minor-league rehab assignment with Brooklyn.

Jersey Shore jumped into the lead in the top of the second by plating four runs. First, LF Leandro Pineda singled home 1B Rixon Wingrove for the BlueClaws first run. From there, 3B Freylin Minyety singled to right, plating RF Gabriel Rincones Jr.

Jersey Shore then executed a double steal, when Minyety swiped second and Pineda took home. SS Erick Brito put the exclamation point on the frame with an RBI double to left to plate Minyety and complete the four-run inning.

Brooklyn cut into the then-three run deficit in the fourth, when Consuegra crushed a ball over the left field fence for a two-run home run, to bring the Cyclones within one. The home run marked Consuegra's seventh of the campaign.

The Cyclones pulled even in the sixth, when LF Omar De Los Santos launched a sacrifice fly, plating SS William Lugo to tie the contest at four.

Jersey Shore regained the lead in the seventh, when CF Marcus Lee Sang recorded a single to right field to plate Brito. But yet, again Brooklyn had a response. In the home eight, Consuegra recorded his third RBI of the night, courtesy of a sacrifice fly, to tie the game at five.

Brooklyn wasn't done in the eighth, though. With men on the corners, De Los Santos took off for second base, prompting a throw down from C Arturo De Freitas. The runner on third, Almonte, bolted home to score the go-ahead run on the double steal, and give the Cyclones a 6-5 lead.

Jersey Shore did not go down without a fight. The BlueClaws started the frame with a walk and a single, before Brito tied the contest on an RBI single. From there, Lee Sang walked, followed by a two-run single from Lee to give the BlueClaws an 8-6 lead.

With no one out and men on second and third, the game was paused due to heavy rain. After a 1-hour and 7-minute delay, play resumed.

Once play had resumed, the BlueClaws kept up their offensive prowess. Jersey Shore went on to score three more runs - courtesy of a 2-RBI double from DH Anthony Quirion, and RBI single from Jared Carr, who previously entered the game as a pinch runner.

Brooklyn would not have a response in the bottom of the ninth, stranding a man at second base without scoring.

The Cyclones will aim for a series split Monday night at Maimonides Park when they take on the BlueClaws in the final contest of a six-game set. RHP Cameron Foster (2-4, 5.06 ERA) is the probable starter for Brooklyn. He'll oppose LHP Jordan Fowler (3-2, 2.75 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
