Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. - The fireworks began early on Monday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,169 at Heritage Financial Park, as the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 11-0 in a five-inning rain shortened contest.
After allowing just one run in the month of June, New York Yankees No. 6 prospect Drew Thorpe (7-1) struck out eight and limited Wilmington to just four hits in five-plus shutout frames. He was credited with the first complete game shutout thrown by a Renegades pitcher since Aug. 23, 2009, when Jason McEachern threw a 7.0-inning shutout in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Staten Island.
The Renegades offense stormed out of the gates with back-to-back three-run innings in the second and third against Andry Lara (2-6). In the second, after Spencer Henson doubled and Anthony Garcia worked a walk, Aldenis Sánchez doubled home Henson to plate the game's first run. Later in the frame, an Eduardo Torrealba fielder's choice and Spencer Jones RBI groundout scored the other two runs to hand Hudson Valley a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Agustin Ramirez walked, Rafael Flores singled, and both scored on a throwing error by Lucius Fox on a grounder hit by Henson. Garcia capped off the scoring in the inning with an RBI single off Lara to plate Henson and extend the advantage to 6-0.
After Chance Huff recorded a scoreless fourth in relief, Hudson Valley's offense tagged him for five runs in the fifth. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Luis Santos, and a run scoring double from Ramirez.
In the shortened game, the Renegades offense tallied 12 hits with eight of the nine starters recording a hit. Ramirez led the way with three hits and reached base four times including collecting a pair of doubles. Sánchez, Santos, and Jones each also drove in two runs. The Renegades travel to Lakewood, New Jersey on Tuesday and begin a six-game series against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the Renegades Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. Hudson Valley will send RHP Tyrone Yulie (3-5, 4.18) to the hill while the BlueClaws counter with LHP Matt Osterberg (5-3, 3.43).
Renegades Record: 42-33, 3-6
