Greenville Drive News Release

After five straight games of the Greenville Drive (5-4, 41-34) plating the first runs of the ball game, the Asheville Tourists (2-7, 28-42) flipped the script, scoring the first five runs before ultimately downing Greenville, 19-3 thanks to seven home runs Monday evening. Despite the loss, the Drive took the six-game series in Asheville, 4-2. '

Dalton Rogers, making his second start of the series, struggled early as his second pitch of the outing was sent out of the park by Jacob Melton to give Asheville the 1-0 lead. It would be a harbinger for the inning as the Tourists added two singles and then an RBI-double, exiting the first inning with a 3-0 lead.

The Tourists struck again in the second, as Logan Cerny added a two-out, two run homer to make it 5-0. The Drive mustered only two hits through the first three innings, but they'd get on board in the fourth thanks to a leadoff homer from Blaze Jordan. Jordan's homer marked his 11th of the year and cut the lead to 5-1.

Blaze added an RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-2, but any thoughts of a comeback for the Drive were dashed quickly as the Tourists greeted Drive reliever Nate Tellier with a first pitch homer to left center field. Tellier struggled from there, hitting the next batter before issuing a walk. A fielding error from Karson Simas would load the bases but a strikeout on the next at-bat wouldn't' be enough to stunt the momentum.

Freudis Nova, who notched a homer against the Drive earlier this season, smacked a grand slam off Tellier in the ensuing at-bat, putting the Tourists up 10-2. Tellier would take the mound in the sixth for the Drive and his struggles continued as he issued a double then a two-run homer off the bat of Ryan Wrobleski to make it 12-2. Tellier's day would get worse still as with two runners on, Freddy Guilamo sent his first homer of the year over the wall to make it 15-2.

Tellier would be relieved by Maceo Campbell in the sixth who picked up three outs. He'd work the seventh as well, keeping the Tourists at bay.

The Drive added another run in the eighth off a Bryan Gonzalez double to right field to score Jordan to cut the deficit to 15-3. Campbell started the eighth for the Drive, but he wouldn't finish it, allowing one more RBI-single to make it 16-3.

Nathan Landry came on for Campbell in the eighth but after getting an out, he'd promptly give up a three-run blast to Cerny to make it 19-3. The Drive would not mount a comeback in the ninth giving Asheville the victory.

Today's game marked the second time the Drive have given up seven home runs in a game this season, and in franchise history, with the first coming against Hudson Valley on April 26. Seven home runs given up is the most the Drive have given up in a single game in team history.

The Drive have given up 19 runs before in a game, 16 years and three days ago, to be exact, in a game against the West Virginia Power on June 30, 2007. The most runs the Drive have given up in a game is 20, which occurred against the Charleston River Dogs on May 21, 2008.

The Drive (Boston Red Sox) return to action tomorrow at Fluor Field for the start of a six-game series with the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves) with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m.
