Colorado Eagles News Release
(Allen, TX) - The Allen Americans scored three goals in the second period and five straight, overall, to knock off the Eagles 5-2 at the Allen Events Center on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 3-3 record.
Former Allen forward Darryl Bootland would be the first to light the lamp in the contest, as he fired a wrister from the blueline that beat Americans goaltender Riley Gill blocker-side to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 9:11 left in the first.
Allen forward Chad Costello would be the next player to post a goal against his former team when he slammed home a slapshot from the low-slot to knot the game at 1-1 with just 22 second remaining in the opening frame.
The Americans would blow things open in the second period, scoring three goals in the middle period. The onslaught would start with defenseman Aaaron Gens deflecting a cross-slot pass past Levine and giving Allen their first lead, 2-1 with 9:21 left in the second.
Less than two minutes later, a disputed goal would go the way of the Americans when forward Reid Halabi tapped home a deflection in the low-slot. The goal was not signaled by the referee and the goal light was not activated for several seconds, but after a discussion between the referee and goal judge the goal was counted and Allen claimed a 3-1 lead with 7:58 left in the second.
The Americans weren't done, as Costello would feed defenseman Eric Roy between the circles on the powerplay, setting up a tip off the tape of Roy that would grow Allen's lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes of play.
Costello would pick up his fourth point of the night when he potted a power-play goal just 1:36 into the third period and giving the Americans a 5-1 lead.
Colorado would finally put the brakes on the Allen outburst when forward Everett Sheen took a centering feed from Collin Joe on top of the crease and stuffed it past Gill to draw the Eagles to within three at 5-2. That is as the Eagles would come, as they would ultimately fall by a final of 5-2.
The Eagles return home to face the Missouri Mavericks for the first time this season on Friday, January 15th at the Budweiser Events Center.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
