Allemand Slugs Barnstormers Over York
June 17, 2021 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release
In the sixth inning, Blake Allemand homered as a left-handed batting second baseman. In the eighth, he connected as a right-handed batting third baseman.
Those two home runs led the Lancaster Barnstormers to a 5-4, come-from-behind victory over the York Revolution at People's Bank Park. It was Lancaster's fourth straight win over York in the 2021 War of the Roses after York captured the series opener.
With the Barnstormers trailing, 4-2, Allemand connected off starter Alex Sanabia with a blast into the yellow tents over the right field wall to cut the lead to one.
The Revs wasted chances to score in both the sixth and the seventh innings. Yoel Espinal walked three batters in the sixth, but Chris Vazquez was cut down on a steal attempt after the first, keeping the right-hander out of deeper trouble.
In the seventh, Donald Goodson (1-1) loaded the bases on a single by newcomer JC Encarnacion and a pair of hit batters. He recovered to induce a 1-2-3 double play out of Andrew Dundon to escape the inning.
Caleb Gindl opened the eighth with a liner to right center off Brandon Fry (0-1). Center fielder Darian Sandford's sprawling effort failed to convince the umpiring crew of a catch, and Gindl ended up at second. Allemand, after fighting off several two-strikes pitches, took Fry into the left center field playground with the decisive blow.
Scott Shuman was summoned for a two-inning save and retired six of seven, three on strikes. The only blemish was a one-out "Baltimore chop" single by Encarnacion in the ninth.
York struck for three runs in the first. Melky Mesa singled home Sandford. Welington Dotel's potential double play ball to short was thrown away as a second run scored, and Carlos Castro made it 3-0 on a sacrifice fly.
Allemand doubled to right to kick off a two-run rally in the fourth. Blake Gailen and Trayvon Robinson followed with consecutive RBI singles to draw Lancaster within one.
The series will conclude on Thursday evening with lefty Augie Sylk (0-0) on the hill for Lancaster against right-hander Duke von Schamann (1-2). Fans may tune into the YouTube broadcast beginning at 6:25.
