Reno Aces News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Alfredo Marte slugged two home runs to lead the Aces to a series-ending 8-4 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes Sunday night.
The first blast gave Reno a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Marte drilled the first pitch he saw from Nick Struck over the left-field wall. His second homer came on a 3-0 pitch with Tony Campana on second base. The multi-homer game is the seventh of its kind for the Aces this season.
Staked to a 3-0 lead, Reno starter Bo Schultz worked around trouble in the second and fourth innings to keep the lead. The "ËTopes left the bases loaded in the second when Schultz got his counterpart Struck to hit a bouncer to second.
Albuquerque got on the board in the third when Johnny Monell laced an RBI-single to left-field. The "ËTopes loaded the bases again in the fourth but Schultz got Mike Baxter to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat and keep a 3-1 lead.
After Marte's second long ball of the game to make it 5-1, Schultz helped himself in the sixth when he legged out an infield single that scored Mike Freeman.
Albuquerque left-fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker cut the lead in half to 6-3 when he drilled an opposite-field two-run home run in the sixth.
The Aces added two more runs in the seventh inning to up their lead to 8-3. Marte added a double and finished the night 3-for-5 with four runs scored and four driven in.
Schultz picked up the win and improved to 6-5 on the season. Over the last six games, Aces starters have combined for a 2.54 ERA with 30 strikeouts against just nine walks. Reliever Kevin Munson worked the final 2 1/3 innings and struck out five in the scoreless effort.
The Aces remain 2.5 games back of the Sacramento River Cats in the Pacific Northern Division. They head to Tacoma for a four-game series with the last-place Rainiers set to begin Monday. Right-hander Zeke Spruill (3-4, 6.75) gets the ball for Reno against Tacoma right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-3, 4.55). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
