Reno Aces News Release
Phoenix, Ariz.- The Reno Aces, in conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, announced today the D-backs selected the contract of shortstop Nick Ahmed.
Ahmed will join the team in San Diego and will be making his Major League debut. He will be the sixth Aces player to make their big-league debut in 2014.
In 79 games with Reno, Ahmed hit .324 (97-for-299) with 40 runs, 36 RBI, 20 doubles, 10 stolen bases, 3 triples and a pair of home runs. He ranks among league leaders in hits (2nd), average (6th) and doubles (T-8th). Ahmed has a current 12-game hitting streak, the longest streak for an Aces player this year.
He also leads all full-season Minor League Baseball teams with a .981 fielding percentage at the shortstop position. In a pre-game ceremony May 28, MiLB President & CEO Pat O'Conner presented Ahmed with his 2013 Rawlings Gold Glove Award(r) based on his exemplary work at shortstop for the Double-A Mobile BayBears in 2013.
In a corresponding move, infielder Garrett Weber has been transferred from Mobile to Reno. In 57 games with the BayBears, Weber hit .282 with 23 runs, 18 RBI, 9 doubles and a pair of home runs. He was drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 22nd round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Fresno State University where he was First-Team All-WAC in 2011.
Tickets for the July 4 and 5 games, including the July 5 Family Pack, are on sale now. For more information, or to purchase an Aces ticket plan, call (775) 334-4700.
