Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Kansas City Royals today recalled outfielder Alex Gordon from Triple-A Omaha, while placing outfielder David DeJesus on the 15-day Disabled List with a sprained right thumb. Gordon is expected to be in uniform for tonight's game in New York against the Yankees. Just prior to last night's game, Kansas City ended Rick Ankiel's rehab assignment with Omaha and activated the outfielder, who replaced DeJesus in center field in the third inning following the injury.

Gordon, 26, hit .315 (82-for-260) with 20 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs, 44 RBI and 59 runs scored in 68 games for the O-Royals. He was recently elected to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and was named PCL Batter of the Week for the week that ended May 16. The former two-time All-American at the University of Nebraska was optioned to Omaha on May 2nd to begin his conversion from third base to the outfield, after hitting .194 (6-for-31) with one home run and one RBI in 12 games for KC. Gordon missed most of Spring Training with a broken right thumb.

DeJesus suffered his thumb injury last night crashing into the right-center field wall at Yankee Stadium after trying to make a running catch of a drive by Derek Jeter that wound up being an inside-the-park home run. Ankiel played the rest of the game in center and went 0-for-3 at the plate, striking out in all three at-bats. In 18 rehab assignment games with Omaha, Ankiel hit .254 (17-for-67) with four homers and nine RBI.

The Royals' next home game at Rosenblatt is Friday, July 23 at 7:05 p.m., when Omaha faces the New Orleans Zephyrs. The game will be followed by Werner Enterprises Friday Fireworks and a post-game concert by .38 Special, presented by Werner Enterprises and 96.1 The Brew.
