Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Ricardo Rodriguez tossed seven innings and picked up an RBI single to pilot the Albuquerque Isotopes (10-12) to an 8-4 win over the Round Rock Express (11-12) on Saturday night at Dell Diamond.
Rodriguez (1-2) earned his first win as an Isotope, holding the Express to four runs on six hits with four strikeouts over seven quality innings. In addition, Rodriguez's two-out, run-scoring single in the fourth helped push along an offensive burst from the Isotopes in the middle innings. Albuquerque never trailed in the game, erasing a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth to build a cushion it would hold onto.
After Rodriguez's exit, Matt Yourkin and Roy Corcoran each authored a perfect inning. Corcoran struck out the side in a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Round Rock starter Fernando Nieve (1-3) took the loss for the Express, surrendering six runs on seven hits before he exited after 4.2 frames.
Albuquerque lit up the scoreboard first, using a third-inning RBI-double by Chad Hermansen to take a 1-0 lead. Round Rock answered with a run in the home half of the third to tie the score, but then the âTopes bats came to life.
John Baker and Rodriguez each punched home a run in the fourth, then a Valentino Pascucci sacrifice fly, a run scored on a wild pitch and a three-run double by Josh Labandeira accounted for five runs in the fifth and an 8-1 Isotopes lead.
The Express rallied for three in the fifth, cutting the deficit to four, but they would get no more after that as the Isotopes picked up their second-straight victory in Round Rock.
Albuquerque recorded 12 hits on the night, with seven of the nine starters picking up at least one hit. Four Isotopes collected two hits on the evening.
The Express managed just six hits in the ballgame. Mike Rodriguez finished 1-for-2 with two runs driven in.
The âTopes and Express put the wraps on the four-game series on Sunday afternoon. Nic Ungs (0-1, 4.50) takes the baseball for Albuquerque, and Round Rock sends Juan Gutierrez (1-1, 2.35). First pitch is set for 1:05 PM at Dell Diamond.
The Isotopes return home on May 8 to take on Portland and Tacoma. Several giveaways, Orbit's Birthday Bash, a visit by Hall-of-Famer Johnny Bench and much more are slated for the eight-day homestand. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800.
