Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Valentino Pascucci roped a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to draw his club to within two, but for the second-straight night an Isotopes rally fell just short as Albuquerque (25-25) dropped a 9-7 decision to Nashville (27-23) Sunday at Isotopes Park.

The 'Topes battled back time and time again on Sunday, but the Sounds routinely had an answer. With three runs in the seventh followed by a two-run eighth, Nashville managed to take a five-run lead into the final frame. Pascucci scorched an R.A. Dickey offering deep to center to push the score to 9-7, but the Isotopes would get no more, dropping their second-straight game.

Albuquerque starter Chris George (3-4) took the loss, though the left-hander held his own, facing off against the top prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, Yovani Gallardo. George allowed four runs-three earned-on seven hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out three. Four Albuquerque relievers combined to surrender five runs on four hits over the next three innings.

Gallardo (7-1) took home the win, scattering three runs on six hits through 5.2 innings. Gallardo walked three and punched out eight.

The 'Topes touched up Gallardo in the early going, posting a run in the first to take a quick 1-0 lead. Robert Andino led-off the game with a single and came around to score the game's first run three batters later on a Pascucci groundout. George held Nashville quiet over the first three innings before the Sounds finally broke through. Beginning in the fourth, Nashville would go on to score at least once in five of the last six innings of the game, producing just enough to stave off any hopes of a come-from-behind Isotopes victory.

The 'Topes did threaten Nashville's lead on several occasions, though. Trailing 4-1 in the sixth, Albuquerque used a pair of bases-loaded walks-one for Scott Seabol and the other for Frankie Moore-to pull to within a run. An inning later-after a three-run burst from Nashville-the 'Topes posted another run when Andino raced home from third on a wild pitch. That made the score 7-4, but the Sounds continued to produce offensively.

Nashville answered with two more runs in the eighth to go ahead 9-4. Albuquerque managed to push three across in the ninth on Pascucci's team-leading 13th blast of the season, but the effort was to no avail.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, the 'Topes sported special camouflage jerseys to honor those who have served or are currently serving in the military. Each jersey was sold to fans in a silent auction, which raised a total of $3,340 for the Blue Star Mothers of America, a non-profit organization for mothers who now have, or have had, children serving in the military. Brett Carrol's No. 20 jersey was the top-seller at $450. Seabol's jersey was auctioned for $260, while Andino's went for $250.

The 'Topes and Sounds will finish up the four-game set on Monday afternoon. Right-hander Jeff Fulchino (3-0, 4.75) will get the nod for Albuquerque, while Nashville counters with lefty Zach Jackson (5-3, 4.61). First pitch is set for 1:35 PM at Isotopes Park.

Monday's matinee will include a visit from Rockin' Ray & The Amazing Skyy Dogs. Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800. For more information, visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com or call 505-924-2255.
