MAY 27, 2007, 1:35 p.m.: OMAHA ROYALS (24-25) vs. New Orleans Zephyrs (24-26)

HOME: 20-10 (31-41 in '06) AWAY: 4-15 (22-50 in '06) vs. New Orleans: 2-4 (8-8 in '06)

TONIGHT: The Royals host the New Orleans Zephyrs in a 1:35 p.m. game at Rosenblatt Stadium. The series is tied 1-1. Omaha is 5-1 on the homestand. It's Family FUNday, with clowns, face painting, balloon art and kids invited to run the bases after the game, presented by KGBI 100.7 FM, KPTM-Fox 42 and Just for Kids & Families! Plus, all Royals Kids Club members receive a free ticket to the game, courtesy of SUBWAY! Air-time is 1:15 p.m. on News Talk 1420 KOTK and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: Jesus Feliciano singled to lead off the 8th inning and wound up scoring the deciding run in the Zephyrs' 2-1 victory. Feliciano, who's 12-for-24 against Omaha pitchers this season, greeted reliever Billy Buckner (4-1) with a single to center field. After a bung single and sacrifice bunt put Z's at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, Fenando Tatis lofted a sacrifice fly to right field. The Royals scored a 1st inning run off Brian Lawrence (1-3), as Joey Gathright reached on a infield single, swiped 2nd base and later scored on Billy Butler's sac fly. Lawrence - like Royals starter Matt Wright - wound up allowing just 1 run in 7.0 innings. Ivan Maldonado got the final 2 outs, including a game-ending strikeout of slugger Craig Brazell, to notch his 4th save.

ROYALS REPORT: Brazell, whose 15-game hitting streak entering Saturday night included four 2-homer games in 5 contests, was 0-for-4 with a pair of K's. Brazell hit .422 (27-64) during the streak and had smacked 12 round-trippers in a dozen games prior to last night. He's still tied for the PCL lead in homers, having clouted 13 in just 17 games with Omaha. *** Wright turned in the Royals' 11th quality start last night, allowing just 4 hits and no walks, while striking out 3. In 43.0 innings this season, the 25-year old right-hander has walked only 8 batters. Last night's gem lowered his ERA 40 points to 3.35. *** Butler, making his 7th start at 1st base last night, was charged with 2 errors, although one came on a bang-bang play at 1st base that drew an argument from 2nd baseman Fernando Cortez and manager Mike Jirschele. The 2 errors doubled Butler's season total in 35 games with the Royals. *** Last night's loss ended the Royals' longest winning streak of the season at 5 games and snapped a 6-game win string at home, which had been tied for the longest home win streak. *** All 6 meetings between the Royals and Zephyrs have been decided by a single run, with New Orleans winning 4 of them. On the season, Omaha is 7-9 in 1-run games. *** Mike Aviles has hit in 5 straight and in 12 of the past 13 contests. Over that span, he's hitting .417 (20-48) and is batting .330 on the season. Aviles' 62 hits rank 5th in the league. *** Matt Tupman was hitless in 3 at-bats Saturday, halting his hitting streak at 8 games. During the streak, he hit .519 (14-27) with 7 RBI. *** Hip, hip...Jorge! Jorge Padilla has hit in 4 straight tilts (.385, 5-13, HR, 2 RBI), upping his average 34 points to .258.

STARTERS: RH Chan Ho Park (3-3, 5.49) vs. LH John Bale (NR)

Bale, who has not pitched for KC this season, begins a 2nd rehab assignment today. The 33-year old lefty is trying to rebound from tightness in his left shoulder. He was signed by KC as a minor league free agent in the off-season after pitching in Japan for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp the past 3 seasons. In 2006 for Hiroshima, Bale made 30 appearances, including 5 starts, and was 1-2 with a 2.93 ERA and 6 saves. Bale last pitched in this country in 2003, when he opened the season with the Mets' Triple-A club, Norfolk, going 0-1 with a 3.29 ERA in 8 relief outings. He was released in May and signed within days by the Reds. After going 4-1 with a 3.30 ERA and 4 saves in 26 games for Triple-A Louisville, Bale had his contract purchased by the Reds on July 30 and spent the rest of the season with Cincinnati; he was 1-2 with a 4.47 ERA in 10 games (9 starts) for the Reds. Bale spent part of 1 season (2001) with Baltimore and parts of 2 others (1999-2000) with Toronto. He's 2-2 with a 4.69 ERA in 27 games (9 starts) in his big league career. Bale attended Jefferson Davis Community College in Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi. He was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 12th round of the 1994 draft, but did not sign. He signed with Toronto after being selected by the Blue Jays in the 5th round of the 1996 draft.

PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES:
