AMARILLO, Texas - Amarillo first baseman Tim Alberts hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with five RBI to lead the Sox to a 9-1 victory and a sweep of the RailCats on Sunday. The RailCats have matched a season-high three-game losing streak to drop to 13-16 while the Sox have won 12 straight home games.
Alberts drilled a two-run homer to dead center off of RailCats starter Derek Drage to give the Sox a 2-0 lead in the first. Adam Buschini's sacrifice fly in the second made it 3-0.
Alberts hit a run-scoring triple in the third to make it 4-0 before the Sox exploded for five runs in the fourth. All of the runs scored with two outs, including a two-run single by Alberts. The Sox had a five-run inning in each of the three games of the series and also scored nine runs in each game.
With two out in the sixth, Alberts hit a line drive to left center and ran in to second base ahead of the throw from center fielder Mike Coles for a double to complete the cycle. Alberts improved his league-leading batting average to .432.
The lone RailCats run came on Coles' RBI double in the eighth.
Sox starter Ryan Mitchell (4-0) held the RailCats to a run in eight innings for the win, striking out eight. Drage (2-3) gave up nine runs on 10 hits in five frames.
The RailCats will travel to Laredo, Texas to start a three-game series on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. Stephen Hiscock (1-1, 3.28) will start for Gary.
