Albany River Rats News Release
The Albany River Rats wrap up a four-game home stand Wednesday when the face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7 p.m. at Times Union Center. Albany trails Bridgeport for the fourth and final playoff berth in the East Division with 17 games remaining in the 2006-07 regular season. News, notes and storylines heading into this week's action:
*At 30-28-3-2, the River Rats are above .500 after 63 games for the first time since 1998-99. They have surpassed their win total from last season (25) by five. Albany is 16-12-2-1 at Times Union Center, including wins in eight of their last 12 home appearances.
*The River Rats post-game jersey auction March 11 raised $16,565 for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The River Rats, for the first time in the 14-year history of the franchise, wore specially designed jerseys during their game against Syracuse. The two highest winning bids in the auction, presented by MVP Health Care, went for the jerseys worn by goaltender Tyler Weiman ($1,100) and center Keith Aucoin ($1,000).
*Albany set a franchise record for the most goals in the second period with five March 11 vs. Syracuse. The five goals fell one shy of the club record for most goals in a period. The River Rats scored six first-period goals in an 8-5 win at Springfield April 2, 1994, during the club's inaugural season.
*The River Rats had a turnout of 7,111 for their game March 10 against Rochester at Times Union Center - third largest of the season. Albany drew crowds of 7,806 February 24 vs. Portland and 7,396 October 14 vs. Peoria.
*Albany owns a 27.6 percent success rate on the power play over their last 16 games, connecting on 21 of 76 man-advantage opportunities. They have climbed from 27th to 13th on the power play over their last 37 games.
*Nights when center Keith Aucoin's name hasn't popped up in the box score for the River Rats have been few and far between. He has gone consecutive games without a point only once all season. Aucoin has accrued 45 points (12 goals, 33 assists) in his last 29 games to lead the AHL in scoring since December 31. He is currently fourth in the AHL in scoring with 73 points (22 goals, 51 assists), despite missing 14 games (13 while on recall to Carolina).
*Tyler Weiman has joined Corey Schwab, Mike Dunham, Peter Sidorkiewicz, Rich Shulmistra, Mike Buzak and Jean-Francois Damphousse as the only goaltenders in the 14-year history of the River Rats to win 20 games or more in a season. He recorded his 20th win March 11 against Syracuse.
*Defenseman Johnny Boychuk and right wing Pat Dwyer are the only two players that have appeared in each of Albany's 63 games. The River Rats have not had a player participate in all 80 regular-season games since Scott Cameron in 2002-03.
