ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Joe Talbot tied the game with Alaska's first shorthanded goal of the year in the third period, allowing Lance Mayes to win it with five consecutive saves in the shootout as the Aces outlasted Las Vegas 4-3 Saturday before 4,603 at Sullivan Arena.

For the second consecutive night, Alaska fell behind after the first period, as Doug Wright scored to give the Wranglers a 1-0 lead at 5:57 of a sluggish frame where neither team exhibited a great deal of energy. The intensity between the two clubs rose continuously for the remainder of the game, however, as Scott Gomez, who earlier had taken two roughing minors, brought the crowd to its feet with the equalizer at 5:18 of the second period. 39 seconds later, Chris Stanley swiped the puck from Gomez at center ice and deked Mayes with a backhander. The short-lived 2-1 edge for Vegas evaporated two minutes later at 7:57 when Jordan Cameron jammed home a loose puck in front for his second goal in as many nights after starting the year scoreless in 18 games.

With the game tied 2-2 heading into the third period, the Wranglers took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play situation, as Stanley scored his second of the night at 2:30. But 29 seconds later, with Las Vegas now skating 5-on-4, Talbot drove a slapshot just underneath the crossbar against goalie Sebastien Centomo (37 saves), jarring the water bottle loose from atop the net in the process. The furious pace continued, with pushing and shoving after almost every whistle and glorious chances for both teams, but the game remained tied through regulation and overtime before Mike Scott scored the only goal of the shootout to finally secure the victory for the Aces (11-8-1).

Alaska climbed back into a second-place tie with Idaho, who lost to San Diego, while Las Vegas (10-7-2) lingers a point back in fourth place. The Aces hit the road for the first of three games against the Gulls Thursday night at the San Diego Sports Arena at 6:05 p.m. The two teams also play Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All three games will be broadcast on flagship station KFQD 750 AM and also made available on a pay-per-view basis at www.alaskaaces.com, courtesy of B2 Networks. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
