Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Steelheads' Lance Galbraith scored two goals, and Idaho held the San Diego Gulls scoreless until early in the third period Sunday evening at the Sports Arena. The Gulls came back to score four unanswered goals, including an empty-netter to win 4-2, to claim the rubber match of the three-game weekend series.

Galbraith notched his fourth of the year at 7:12 of the first period with the assists coming from Frank Lukes and Dan Vandermeer. The two teams skated to a scoreless second period.

Idaho's second goal came early in the third when Galbraith redirected a shot by Dave Cornacchia over San Diego's goalie Trevor Koenig's shoulder at 1:16. The Gulls answered back quickly, with a tally by Darren Clark that beat Idaho's netminder Colin Zulianello just 1:41 later. Idaho still held a one-goal lead, but after Max Birbraer tied the game at 17:50 with his third in as many nights, it was all San Diego. Sean O'Connor's third goal in two games proved to be the game-winner. The Gulls sealed the win after Idaho pulled its goalie to add the extra attacker and Chris Lynch scored on the empty net with 14-seconds remaining in the game.

The Steelheads' Zulianello falls to 1-4-0 on the season, while the Gulls' Koenig improves to 7-3-2.

Idaho returns home to take on the Las Vegas Wranglers for two games next weekend.
