Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Texas AirHogs won a 2-1 thriller over the Gary SouthShore RailCats Wednesday at AirHogs Stadium, clinching the season series between the two teams three games to two. The AirHogs remain in town for a four-game set vs. the Sioux City Explorers beginning Thursday.
Miguel Rosario got the start for the AirHogs and allowed just one run over six innings vs. the North division leaders. Texas built him an early advantage on a sacrifice fly by Luo Jinjun to score Stewart Ijames in the second. Rosario walked four in the fourth to help the RailCats even the contest 1-1 but also left the bases loaded to keep the game tied. He allowed just one hit while striking out five and walking six in getting the no-decision. Rosario has now allowed just two runs over his last 13 innings pitched.
Rosario's counterpart Jeff McKenzie (4-7) held the game at 1-1 into the eighth, where Correlle Prime led off with a base hit. Ijames then helped to cash in with a smashed triple to the right field corner to give the AirHogs a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Yang Yanyong, Taylor Wright and Carlos Contreras all posted scoreless frames in relief of Rosario, with Wright (3-2) picking up the win and Contreras earning his ninth save. AirHogs pitching held Gary to just two hits for the entire evening, while the AirHog bats tagged McKenzie for 12.
Song Yunqi, Chen Junpeng, Dillon Thomas and Ijames all finished with two hits for Texas, which won despite stranding nine. The RailCats (40-28) left seven.
The AirHogs (19-49) remain at home to open a four-game set vs. the Sioux City Explorers Thursday at 7:05. Starters for both teams are TBA. A live broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
