El Paso Diablos News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX- The El Paso Diablos stranded 13 runners over nine innings and succumbed to a late Grand Prairie rally to lose by a final score of 3-2 in front of a raucous crowd at QuikTrip Park. The loss drops the Diablos to 1-4 on the season.
Once again, El Paso got a strong performance from their pitching staff, with starter Reymond Cruz allowing only one run on three hits in his five innings of work. Colin Allen, in his season debut, added two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, but Marcel Prado and Geivy Garcia (0-1) allowed a run each in the eighth and ninth innings to give the AirHogs a win in their home opener.
The Diablos led both 1-0 and 2-1, the latter into the eighth inning. However, the AirHogs, who were outhit 11 to seven, got a big two-out, RBI double from David Thomas to tie the score. The very next inning, Garcia loaded the bases and watched helplessly as his 1-1 pitch to Bridger Hunt sailed past catcher Patrick Arlis and to the backstop, scoring Yasutsugu Nishimoto and giving Grand Prairier its third win in five games to begin the year.
Cody White matched Cruz by allowing only one run in five innings/ A trio of relievers followed White before Justin Dowdy (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth (the only inning in which the Diablos did not strand a runner) to earn the victory.
El Paso got its runs on a sacrifice fly from Brian Joynt in the fourth inning and an RBI double by Kory Drew in the sixth. It wasn't enough, however, as the Diablos let several more scoring chances fall by the wayside.
Game two of the three game set begins tomorrow at 10:35 CST (9:35 MST). It will be Erik Blackwell facing off against John Brownell, with El Paso attempting to win its first game since Friday night against Fargo-Moorhead.
