AMARILLO, TX - Opening day at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium lasted three hours and forty-three minutes and drew a crowd of 6,518. The Sox dropped their home opener after being up 8-1 in the 5th inning before 13 unanswered runs by Winnipeg, and a final score of 14-9.

In the first inning, the Sox got on the board from an Alberto Espinosa double, driving in Jason White, and in the second inning, Amarillo would hit all singles to earn four more runs. The Sox would increase their lead with three more in the fourth after homeruns by White and Cyle Hankerd.

Winnipeg didn't wake up until the sixth inning when Luis Allen's three-run homer brought the Goldeyes within two runs of the Sox's eight. Then in the seventh, pitchers Wes Littleton and Chase Johnson couldn't hold the offense from Winnipeg as they put up seven runs on only five hits, making it 13-8. The Sox walked in two of those runs with the bases loaded.

Chad Povich came in for the 8th and 9th innings for the Sox, only walking one, giving up one hit, and no earned runs. The Sox would tack on one run in the 9th but it wasn't enough as Nick Carr came in to close the game out for the Goldeyes.

Chuck Lofgren started for the Sox, pitching five innings and only allowing two earned runs while striking out two and walking four. The Goldeyes threw out Ace Walker who lasted three innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, all being earned.

Kaohi Downing got the win (1-0) and former Texas Rangers, Wes Littleton (0-1) is charged with the loss in his American Association debut, giving up four runs on three hits. The Sox start the season off 0-1 but will get another chance at the Goldeyes tomorrow night in which the gametime is set for 7:05 at ANB Sox Stadium.
