
AHL Scoring Champ MacLean Joins Crunch

MacLEAN JOINS CRUNCH: The Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned center Don MacLean to Syracuse. MacLean, 26, won the John B. Sollenberg Award as the American Hockey League's top scorer (87 points) and finished second in the AHL in assists (54) last season as a member of the St. John's Maple Leafs. He has missed the entire 2002-03 season due to a neck injury. In 277 career AHL games with St. John's, Lowell, Springfield and Fredericton, MacLean has tallied 98 goals, 136 assists and 186 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 25 career regular season NHL games with Los Angeles and Toronto, recording five goals, three assists and six penalty minutes. A 6-foot-3, 208 pound native of Sydney, Nova Scotia, MacLean was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Kings with their second selection, 33rd overall, in the 1995 Entry Draft. Columbus signed MacLean as a free agent on July 17, 2002.
SCOVILLE RETURNS TO ACTION: Defenseman Darrel Scoville returned to action on Monday night vs. Grand Rapids after missing the previous 18 games with a broken foot, suffered on January 6 @ Philadelphia. Earlier this season Scoville missed 31 games with an abdominal injury. A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Scoville has appeared in seven games with the Crunch this season recording two goals, three assists and eight penalty minutes.
TRAYNOR FINDS NET AGAIN: After being held scoreless in his first 41 games in a Crunch uniform-over two seasons, defenseman Paul Traynor has found the back of the net in consecutive games after scoring in Monday night's 4-3 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Traynor now has three career AHL goals in 176 games with Albany, Rochester and Syracuse.

Wednesday, February 19
Dora The Explorer Night: On Wednesday, February 19, Dora The Explorer will be at the Crunch's game against the Hershey Bears. The popular star of Nick Jr's "Dora the Explorer" show, Dora the Explorer will be on hand that night to visit with Crunch fans. In each episode, the bilingual Dora and her sidekick, Boots, along with her backpack and map, overcome nemesis Swiper the Fox and other obstacles. One of the more interactive shows on television, 'Dora the Explorer' teaches children basic Spanish words and phrases, along with math and music skills and physical coordination. Children also learn how to observe situations and solve problems. Dora will be available at the February 19 game, during intermissions and post-game in Memorial Hall. The first 1,000 children, 12 and under, in attendance will receive a Dora the Explorer sticker and one lucky fan will receive a Dora the Explorer doll, courtesy of Time Warner Cable.
Saturday, February 22
Quickway Trading Card Night: The Crunch's Saturday, February 22 against Binghamton will be Quickway Trading Card Night. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive the first 13 of the 25 2002-03 trading card set. The remaining 12- card set will be available, beginning that night, at area Quickways with a purchase.
Friday, February 28
U.S. Army High School Night: The Crunch's Friday, February 28 against the Rochester Americans is U.S. Army High School Night at the Crunch. Any high school student who shows a valid I.D. at the Crunch's box office will receive a $14 ticket for $5, compliments of the U.S. Army. The U.S. Army Color Guard will be on hand to help with the national anthem and the U.S. Army will be on hand to distribute information.
Taco Bell Night: Friday, February 28 is Taco Bell Night at the Crunch. Local Taco Bell stores will serve as outlets for vouchers good for discounted tickets to Taco Bell Night at the Crunch, courtesy of Taco Bell.
THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:
HERSHEY (COLORADO AVALANCHE): Hershey travels to the War Memorial at Oncenter on Wednesday, February 19 and Friday, February 21 for the fifth and sixth of six regular season meetings this season. The series is tied at 2-2-0, after Syracuse defeated Hershey 6- 4 on January 18. Right wing David Ling leads all players with eight points (8a). Right wing Brian Willsie (2g, 2a) and center Charlie Stephens (2g, 2a) pace the Bears with four points each. Goaltender Philippe Sauve has appeared in all four games against the Crunch, with a 2-2-0 record, a 3.26 goals against average and ..874 save percentage. Karl Goehring (1-1-0, 3.51 gaa, .910 spct) and Pascal Leclaire (1-1-0, 3.53 gaa, .919 spct) have split time in the net for Syracuse. Lifetime, the Crunch is 20-28-10 against the Hershey Bears.
BINGHAMTON (OTTAWA SENATORS): The Crunch host the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, February 22 in the seventh of eight regular season meetings. Binghamton leads the series 4-1-1, defeating Syracuse 4-3 in overtime in their last meeting on January 31. Right wing David Ling (1g, 7a) leads all players in head-to-head scoring with eight points. Left wing David Hymovitz (1g, 5a) and right wing Brad Smyth (4g, 2a) pace the Senators with six points. Senators goaltender Ray Emery has appeared in four games, with a 3-1-0 record, a 2.25 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. Goaltender Karl Goehring has appeared in four games for Syracuse with a 1-2-1 record, a 1.89 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. Lifetime, Syracuse is 1-4-1 against the Senators.
ROCHESTER (BUFFALO SABRES): Syracuse travels to Rochester on Sunday, February 23 for the sixth of 12 regular season meetings. The series is tied at 2-2-1, after Syracuse defeated Rochester 4-1 in their last meeting on February 2. Right wing Matt Davidson (4g, 2a) leads all players in head-to-head scoring with six points. Right wing Jason Pominville (2g, 3a) paces Rochester with five points. Rochester goaltender Ryan Miller has appeared in three games with a 2-0-1 record, a .98 goals against average, .971 save percentage. Karl Goehring has appeared in five games for Syracuse with a 2-2-1 record, a 2.75 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. Lifetime Syracuse is 36-45-12 against Rochester.
INJURY UPDATE: Defenseman Duvie Westcott is expected to miss an additional one to two weeks after suffering a mild concussion on February 1 against Rochester. Westcott has missed seven games with the injury... Defenseman Paul Manning is listed as day-to-day after suffering a shoulder injury on February 9 @ Philadelphia. He has missed three games with the injury.
