Arkansas Travelers News Release

North Little Rock, AR - The 2015 Texas League Champion Midland RockHounds utilized an early barrage to beat the Arkansas Travelers 7-2 at Dickey-Stephens Park on Thursday night.

With two outs and nobody on in the top of the first, the 'Hounds drew back-to-back walks for CF Jaycob Brugman. Brugman then launched a 2-2 pitch over the right field wall to put Midland up 3-0.

After the Travs went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first, Midland plated three more runs in the second, two of which thanks to a LF J.P. Sportman double, to take a 6-0 lead.

1B Eric Aguilera blasted two home runs for the Travs, but they were the only two runs Arkansas would score. Aguilera led all Angels minor leaguers with 17 home runs and 94 RBIs for Advanced-A Inland Empire in 2015.

The multi-home run game was Arkansas' first since Sherman Johnson hit two at Northwest Arkansas on May 20, 2015.

Midland starter RHP Chris Jensen (W, 1-0) tossed six innings and allowed just a run on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Travs RHP Kyle McGowin (L, 0-1) surrendered the six runs (five earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

LHP Tyler DeLoach worked out of the bullpen for Arkansas and struck out six over four innings of work.

The two teams combined for 27 strikeouts (Arkansas 13, Midland 14).

The Travs went 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.

Returning Travs 2B Sherman Johnson and CF Chad Hinshaw had the other two Arkansas hits.

Arkansas and Midland will play the middle game of the three-game series on Friday night at Dickey-Stephens Park. RHP Raul Alcantara will square off against Travs RHP Victor Alcantara. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
