Sadzeck Shines as Riders Win Again
April 8, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Behind a dominant start on the mound from Connor Sadzeck and a fruitful sixth inning at the plate, the Frisco RoughRiders defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 6-3 at Arvest Ballpark.
Very much like it was Thursday night, both teams' starting pitchers were interlocked in a quality battle early on, as Sadzeck (1-0) battled against Naturals southpaw Matt Strahm, with each cruising through the early innings. Strahm retired the first 10 men he faced, while Sadzeck faced the minimum through 3 2/3 innings.
Once Strahm left in the sixth inning, the Riders (2-0) teed off on Naturals (0-2) reliever Estarlin Cordero (0-1). After Luis Marte flied out to begin the inning, the Riders put the next six hitters aboard and scored five times overall in the frame.
Lewis Brinson kicked off the scoring with an RBI single, followed by a two-run double from the bat of Alex Burg. The Riders increased their lead to 5-0 after RBI singles by Alberto Triunfel and Joe Jackson later in the inning.
Sadzeck followed the big inning with one last quick frame of his own. In total, he lasted six innings and allowed just two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts to pick up the win. Through two games, both RoughRiders starting pitchers (Sadzeck and Frank Lopez) have worked six shutout innings, allowing a combined five hits.
The Naturals scored their first run of the series in the top of the eighth inning, ending the Riders streak of 16 1/3 scoreless innings to start the season. Northwest Arkansas scored twice more in the ninth, but Ryne Slack (1) came on for the save to finish the victory and get the RoughRiders to 2-0 for the first time since 2011.
The club has a chance to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2008 in the series finale with the Naturals Saturday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. from Arvest Ballpark. Right-hander Sam Wolff (0-0, -.-- ERA) is scheduled to make the start for the RoughRiders, opposite righty Christian Binford (0-0, -.-- ERA). Live coverage from Arvest Ballpark can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show coverage begins at 5:30 p.m.
The RoughRiders will open their 2016 home schedule at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Thursday, April 14 against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Opening Night will be the first Thirsty Thursday of the season with $1 domestic draft beers, $2 craft and import beers, and $1 Dr Pepper Products from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receive a 2016 RoughRiders schedule magnet and after the game, everyone in attendance will be invited onto the field to watch an incredible post-game fireworks show.
