Houston Aeros News Release
Five things you need to know
⢠Houston's Mikko Koivu, selected to the PlanetUSA All-Star Team Thursday, enters tonight's game with a team season-high seven-game point streak. Koivu has 10 points (6-4=10) in the last seven games, and his four-game goal streak was snapped Tuesday. Koivu is second on the team with 24 points (12-12=24), despite missing 12 games due to an appendectomy in late October. Koivu's seven-game point streak is the best for an Aero since Rastislav Pavlikovsky had a nine-game streak from 2/1-3/11/03. Teammate Stephane Veilleux carries a four-game point streak (1-4=5) into tonight's game. That ties Veilleux's season-high.
⢠Aeros goalie Mike Smith has appeared in 19 straight games - with 17 starts in that span - including one game where he replaced the injured Josh Harding with five seconds remaining 11/28. Smith's 19-game run is a new franchise record, eclipsing Frederic Chabot's old mark of 15, set 12/8/99-1/21/00.
⢠Twelve of the last 21 meetings between Houston and Chicago have gone into overtime.
⢠Houston is an amazing 10-2-0-0 when getting outshot, or the shots are even. The Aeros, meanwhile, are just 9-15-2-2 when outshooting an opponent. Aeros goalies don't mind work - they are only 2-10-1 when seeing 23 shots or less, but 17-9-1 when seeing 24 or more. The Aeros have outshot their opponents by a combined 85-42 in the last two games, but have won neither.
⢠Three is the Aeros' magic number. They are 15-3-1-1 when scoring three goals or more, but 4-14-1-1 when scoring two or fewer. Similarly, Houston is 14-4-1-1 when allowing two or less, but 5-13-1-1 when yielding three or more.
Wolves at Aeros (Aeros are 29-21-13-4 overall, Aeros are 17-6-8-2 at Houston)
⢠Tonight is the 68th all-time meeting between the Wolves and Aeros - 34th in Houston.
⢠Houston is 1-1-1-0 this season against the Wolves, with the lone home meeting resulting in a 4-3 OT win 10/24.
⢠The Aeros went 1-5-4 against Chicago in 2003-04, including a 1-1-3 home mark and an 0-4-1 record on the road.
⢠The Aeros have just four wins in the last 19 matchups (4-7-5-3), but they have points in 12 of those games.
⢠The Wolves have three former Aeros on the roster - Travis Roche and Cory Larose are the top two point-getters in AHL Aeros history, while Greg Hawgood also plays for Chicago.
