Aeros Stay Hot in 9-1 Romp over Reading

Akron, OH - Akron's Danny Salazar allowed just three hits over seven innings Friday night, and the Aeros belted out 14 hits en route to a 9-1 victory over the Reading Phillies at Canal Park.
The Aeros (74-50) won for the fourth consecutive night, and lowered the magic number for clinching the EL West crown to 11.
In a season punctuated by numerous sensational pitching efforts, Salazar turned in another gem for the Aeros. The 22-year-old righthander retired the final 14 batters he faced to pick up his second win of the season. Salazar (2-0) gave up two hits and a run in the first inning, but settled into a groove and only allowed one more hit the rest of his outing.
Making just his third Double-A start, Salazar walked none and struck out eight. In his last two starts, he has allowed just one earned run over 12 innings with 10 strikeouts.
While Salazar was handcuffing the Phillies, who entered the game as the league's top hitting club, the Aeros exploded for nine runs on 14 hits. They chased Phillies starter Trevor May (9-11) with a five-run third inning, highlighted by Matt Lawson's two-run single, to take a 6-1 lead.
Three more came across in the fourth, with the big hit coming on a two-run double to right from Davis Stoneburner off Phils reliever Colby Shreve. That rally made it 9-1 and capped the scoring for the night.
Three Aeros players collected three hits apiece. Lawson and Stoneburner each had three hits and three RBI's. Thomas Neal was 3-4, and clubbed a long homer to left field off May in the first inning to tie the score at 1-1. It was Neal's 11th of the year. Jordan Henry finished with two hits on the night.
Kyle Landis followed Salazar to the mound and finished the game with two scoreless innings. Aeros pitching has yielded just five runs in the last four games, dropping the team ERA to a league-best 3.07.
The Aeros will continue the series against the Phillies (66-59) at 7:05 PM Saturday night. RHP Ethan Martin (2-0, 1.46) will start for the R-Phils, while RHP Brett Brach (3-5, 4.68) will make the start for the Aeros.
