
Tepera Works Seven Innings for Seventh Win

(Manchester, NH)---Brian Van Kirk drilled an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Fisher Cats the lead, and New Hampshire went on to a 3-2 win over Altoona in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Ryan Tepera (7-2) worked a seasons-best seven innings in recording the win. He allowed six hits and two runs, only one was earned. He walked one and struck out six.
Altoona (59-65) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Charlie Cutler walked and Stefan Welch doubled. Cutler scored when the throw back in from right hit the runner sliding into second to make it 1-0 Altoona.
The Fisher Cats (51-74) came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning. Van Kirk walked, moved to second on a single by Brian Jeroloman and scored on Yorvit Torrealba's single to make it 1-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Jarek Cunningham led off with a single for the Curve. Stefan Welch followed with a single. Evan Chambers grounded into a fielders choice as Cunningham scored to put Altoona up 2-1 for starter Tyler Waldron, who allowed one run in five innings.
New Hampshire moved in front in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Schimpf singled and stole second, scoring on an infield single by Ryan Goins when the ball was thrown away by the Curve. Van Kirk then put the Fisher Cats ahead with a single against losing pitcher, reliever Kris Harvey (0-3).
Marcus Stroman worked a scoreless eighth inning in relief for the Fisher Cats and John Stilson finished up with a perfect ninth inning for his first save.
