Aeros on KNTH Friday; Boogaard wins Designated Driver contest

HOUSTON, Texas â This Friday's Aeros game against the Manitoba Moose will be broadcast on News Talk Houston 1070 KNTH-AM, the team announced Wednesday. Ken Double, the "Voice of the Aeros", will call the action beginning at 7:35 p.m. on "Derek Boogaard Bobblehead Night". Exciting announcements about more broadcasts are forthcoming.
News Talk 1070 KNTH-AM is a part of Salem Communications Corporation, the leading radio broadcaster focused on Christian and family themes programming. The station offers a strong line-up of syndicated talk show hosts including Bill Bennett (5-8 AM), Mike Gallagher (8-11AM), Dennis Prager (11AM-1PM), Dave Ramsey (1-3PM), Michael Medved (3-5PM), and Hugh Hewitt (5-8PM). In addition, listeners get local news, weather and traffic throughout the day.
Also, Houston Aeros winger Derek Boogaard has been voted the athlete who sports fans in Houston would choose to be their "Designated Driver" during the recent holiday season. Boogaard received more than 15,000 of the 20,000 votes submitted in the poll, conducted through the Houston Press website (www.houstonpress.com).
The project was a joint venture of Houston Press and Silver Eagle Distributors, L.P., which will donate $2,500 to the "Sunshine Kids Foundation" on Boogaard's behalf. The check will be presented prior to the opening faceoff of the Aeros' game against Manitoba this Friday at 7:35 p.m.
Boogaard, a 22-year-old, 6-foot-7, 270-pound hulk from Regina, Sask., has posted one assist and 136 penalty minutes in 29 games this season.
The Sunshine Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Established in 1982, we are committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Sunshine Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.
Boogaard's teammate, Mark Cullen â a cancer survivor â helped raise $3655 for the Sunshine Kids last season. Anonymous donors gave money to the foundation for every goal and assist scored by Cullen over the final three months of the 2003-04 season.
