Aerodynamics...

Better Late than Never...The Aeros blew a six-run lead with six outs to play last night, yet rallied all the same with three runs in the top of the 11th inning for a hard-fought 11-8 triumph over Binghamton in the opener of this four-game series. RF Bronson Sardinha put Akron ahead to stay with a solo home run in the top of the 11th, and the Aeros then received some insurance courtesy of a two-run single from DH Matt Whitney, who finished the game with a season-high four runs batted in. RHP Erik Stiller (4-2) earned the win with two sterling innings of relief, surrendering only a single while striking out three. The win now guarantees Akron of playing at least .500 ball on this eight-game road trip, as the club has already won four of five. The Aeros have not had a losing road trip since getting swept in Bowie May 2nd-4th; since then Akron is 20-6 away from home.

Sweet Swingin' Stephen...1B Stephen Head had another big game last night, collecting a pair of doubles and driving in two runs in Akron's victory. The native of Raymond, MS notched his 20th multi-hit game of the season and also extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games. Over this streak Head is batting .383 (18-47) with six doubles, four homers, 11 runs scored and 11 RBI. This is the longest hitting streak of Head's professional career; his previous high was a pair of nine-game streaks for Kinston in 2005 and 2006.

Many Happy Returns...Akron CF Nathan Panther celebrated his return to the lineup in style last night, driving a double and socking a solo home run as part of a season-high four-hit performance. The veteran from Muscatine, IA had missed the previous week with a strained left calf, a recurrence of the injury that originally landed him on the disabled list from June 16th-23rd. It was Panther's first four-hit performance sine he went 4-4 last June 12th while playing for Kinston.

Still Perfect...Even though the Aeros blew their big advantage last night, the comeback win enabled them to remain perfect when leading entering the ninth innings. Akron is now 44-0 when leading after eight innings, one of only three teams in the Eastern League that can make such a claim (Altoona at 32-0 and New Britain at 26-0 are the others). On the flip side, the Aeros have rebounded to win three times when trailing after eight innings, tied with two other clubs in the league for the most late-inning comebacks. Akron is 3-27 when trailing after eight innings, Bowie is 3-28, and Harrisburg is 3-31.

Did You Know...A year after finishing tied with New Britain for the best team batting average in the league, hitting coach Lee May, Jr.'s charges are in first place with a .279 team batting average this season. Akron leads the league in runs scored (448), hits (807), walks (362), and have struck out the third-fewest times (526).
