New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Ryan Klosterman went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base, but it wasn't enough to prevent the New Hampshire Fisher Cats from dropping a 3-2 heartbreaker to the Trenton Thunder on Saturday night before 5,642 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
New Hampshire (32-55) took the lead in the bottom of the second inning against winner Eric Hacker when Kyle Phillips (1-for-3, R) singled and scored all the way from first base on a Klosterman triple off the right-centerfield wall. That run snapped a string of 15.2 scoreless innings for the Fisher Cats' offense. Scott Campbell (0-for-2, SF) drove in Klosterman with a sacrifice fly to right field for a 2-0 lead.
Trenton (53-34) rallied to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning against losing pitcher Brett Cecil (3-2). Reegie Corona (1-for-4, RBI, R) stroked an RBI double to left field, Ramiro Pena (1-for-4, RBI, R, BB) lined a run-scoring single to right and Chris Malec (2-for-5, RBI) bounced a single through the middle off reliever Seth Ovebey to put the Thunder ahead to stay.
Hacker (4-1) allowed two runs on three hits in five innings to notch his third straight win.
Zach Kroenke, Michael Gardner and Mark Melancon combined for four innings of scoreless innings, with Melancon registering five strikeouts over two frames to earn his second save.
Cecil (3-2) saw his three-game winning streak snapped by yielding three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings. The left-hander struck out six and walked one in the defeat. Cecil did manage to match Robert Ray's team-leading scoreless-innings stretch of 14.1 innings pitched.
New Hampshire relievers Overbey, Daryl Harang and Zach Dials combined for 4.2 shutout innings.
The Fisher Cats send right-hander Brandon Magee (1-11, 5.81) to the mound on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm against Trenton right-hander George Kontos (3-7, 3.27). Radio coverage begins at 12:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy.
The first 1,000 kids in attendance on Sunday afternoon at Merchantsauto.com Stadium will receive a FREE Fisher Cats Glove. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
