Connecticut Defenders News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT- Adam Witter's two solo bombs coupled with another stellar performance by Nate Bump equated to a 5-0 victory over the Rock Cats.
Antoan Richardson started the first inning with a rarity. With the outfield drawn in, Richy laced a line drive down the right field line and sent David Winfree scampering for the baseball. By the time he grabbed it, hit the relay man and the ball found the plate, Antoan was sliding in with an unprecedented inside-the-park homer.
The Defs kept the ball rolling the second when Adam Witter launched a ball into orbit to deep right. The solo blast made it 2-0 but then Kyle Haines scored on an RBI single by Ben Copeland to push the advantage to 3-0.
Witter sent another long ball over the right-center field wall and Carlo Sosa scored on an RBI double off the stick of Kyle Haines to make it 5-0 Defenders.
Meanwhile, Nate Bump continued his dominance against the Rock Cats. Nate tossed six scoreless, allowed two infield singles, walked two and struck out a Defenders' best six.
Brooks McNiven, Josh Sharpless and Justin Hedrick combined to intact the shutout in the 5-0 win. Bump improved to 4-3, Jay Rainville dropped to 5-7 and Justin Hedrick picked up his second save as he came in during the eighth with the bases loaded.
These two teams will square off on Sunday at 1:35pm as the AT&T Real Yellow Pages Pre-Game Show will start at 1:20pm. Tune in anywhere in the world at ctdefenders.com or on the Defenders' Radio Network.
