Aerodynamics...

We're Talking Baseball...The Aeros finally got on the field Thursday after four straight days of rain postponed games (the finale of a three-game series in Bowie Sunday, plus the first three days of a four-day visit to Altoona), splitting a doubleheader with Altoona. The Aeros took game one from the Curve 5-1 before dropping game two 8-2. RHP Hector Rondon was the story in the opener, taking a perfect game into the fifth as he retired the first 14 hitters before Steve Lerud dropped a soft liner to center with two outs in the fifth for Altoona's first hit. Rondon would go on to carry a shutout into the seventh before falling two outs shy as the Curve finally broke through on Lerud's sacrifice fly. The outing still marked Rondon's second straight quality start, as he allowed just a run on three hits in 6.1 innings. He also upped his record to a spotless 5-0 on the year (five wins in five starts), tied with New Hampshire's unpronounceable Mark Rzepczynski for the league lead. Rondon is also fifth in the league with a 1.23 ERA and is tied for fifth with 26 strikeouts in 29.1 innings.

Game Two...Game two was a different story for the Aeros, as the club never led in the 8-2 defeat. The loss snapped Akron's six-game winning streak and marked the second time this year that a long winning streak ended at the hands of the Curve, as Akron's season-high seven-game winning streak ended in game two of a twin-bill with Altoona here at Canal Park. The Aeros have four more scheduled doubleheaders this year, including one on the return trip to Altoona next week.

Leaving Them Stranded...The Aeros went a combined 2-14 with runners in scoring position in the two games against Altoona yesterday (1-7 in both games), and stranded 11 men on base in both affairs. Akron's previous season high for stranded runners was 10, but that record fell twice in one day (and in seven-inning games no less).

What Goes Up, Must Come Down...The five-game hitting streaks for 2B Niuman Romero and C Damaso Espino both ended yesterday, but on the flip side both 1B Beau Mills and CF Jose Constanza collected hits in both games and extended their hitting streaks to a season-high six games. Mills went 2-4 in game one while Constanza was 2-3 in game two, and the pair remained tied for the team lead in multi-hit games with eight apiece. Constanza also leads the team and ranks eighth in the Eastern League with a .338 batting average entering play tonight.

Welcome, and Welcome Back...The Aeros received RHP Zach Putnam from Class A Kinston today to fill the roster spot of departed RHP Frank Herrmann, although Putnam will work out of the bullpen and RHP Erik Stiller will take the open hole in the rotation. Also, 3B Jared Goedert will play the field for the first time since coming off the disabled list, as he is scheduled to play five innings at third base tonight as he continues to work his way back from a strained right oblique.
