READING, Pa - Reading's Michael Spidale hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning off reliever Eric Krebs to break a 1-1 tie as the R-Phils stole a 3-1 victory on Friday night at First Energy Stadium.

Reading grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning before the Curve knotted the score in the fourth frame, 1-1 when Jamie Romak singled home Jonel Pacheco. The tie would hold until the Spidale homer thanks to a strong pitching performance from starter Daniel Moskos. The Pirates' 2007 first round draft choice tossed six solid innings permitting the unearned run. He did not walk a batter in the outing and has tossed at least 6.0 innings in each of his last four starts.

Altoona (7-18) will look to even the series in the second game of the three-game stanza on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. The Curve have yet to announce their starter, but Reading (16-9) will throw LHP Joe Savery (2-1, 4.33). Coverage of the contest will begin with a 5:50 p.m. pre-game show on flagship station ESPN Radio, 1430-WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
