Akron RubberDucks News Release

About Last Night...The host Erie SeaWolves continued their recent run over the Aeros with a 6-2 victory last night at Jerry Uht Park. Akron RHP Josh Tomlin notched his team-leading 10th quality start in the contest, but a pair of three-run innings for Erie were too much to overcome as the Texas native lost for the fourth time in four starts this season against the second-place SeaWolves. A home run, a single and another home run in the fourth inning gave Erie a 3-0 advantage, while Akron managed only a pair of sacrifice flies after loading the bases with no outs in the top of the seventh. The SeaWolves put the game out of reach in the bottom of the frame however, scoring three times thanks to a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and a pair of errors. Erie improved to 10-2 against Akron with the victory.

Tomlin Three-Step...Although Tomlin (9-7) had failed to make it out of the fifth inning in his previous three starts against Erie, he was much improved yesterday despite taking the loss. He retired nine straight hitters on two separate occasions, starting with the first nine batters of the game and continuing following the three-batter, three-run hiccup in the fourth. Tomlin allowed just four hits and three earned runs (six total) in 6.1 innings, walking one and recording seven strikeouts to climb to third among active Eastern League hurlers with 85 on the season. The native of Whitehouse, TX has just two no-decisions in 18 appearances (17 starts), while fellow starter Ryan Edell has 11 no-decisions in 14 games (13 starts).

Drennen Delivers Difference...RF John Drennen was the only Aero to collect multiple hits yesterday as he singled twice in four at-bats. The former first-round draft pick out of San Diego, CA is batting .319 with 13 doubles, two home runs and 21 RBI in 41 games since returning to Akron June 1st from Class A Kinston. Prior to being transferred to the K-Tribe, Drennen was batting only .191 with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBI in 21 games for the Aeros. Drennen has a .372 on-base percentage since June 1st and is also hitting .306 against right-handed pitchers on the season.

Out to Sea...Five of Akron's last six losses have come at the hands of the SeaWolves, including Erie's four-game sweep leading into the All-Star break (the first four-game sweep of the Aeros in more than four years). In the 12 games played against Erie on the year, the pitching has been the big difference as the Aeros have a 5.31 ERA and have allowed 17 home runs in 100.0 innings pitched while they have a 3.15 ERA and just 41 home runs allowed to all other teams this season. The SeaWolves pitching staff, on the other hand, has a 2.62 team ERA and has allowed just seven home runs to Akron.

Did You Know...C Carlos Santana already has 63 walks this season, and is on pace to draw 93 free passes for the year. That would shatter the franchise record of 82 set by Ken Ramos in 1992 and would be the most in the EL since 2003.
