Gluttony Night II set for August 26

July 21, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA -- On May 19, 2009, much to their fans' delight, the Reading Phillies served more food than at any game in the team's storied 43-year history on an evening dubbed Gluttony Night. On Wednesday, August 26, when they take on the Erie SeaWolves at 7:05 PM, they will try to out-do themselves by offering more time to eat and adding cheeseburgers to the menu for the all-you-can-eat Gluttony Night II.

"I know, I know," said Scott Hunsicker, R-Phils General Manager and mastermind behind both feeding frenzies. "For a guy who feared being fired for the first Gluttony Night I'm certainly pushing my luck, but the fans have been asking if we're going to do this again."

For just $15.00, fans can get a combo reserved seat ticket and wristband that entitles them to raid FirstEnergy Stadium's concession stands from the time Happy Hour gates in the right field food court open at 5:00 until the 7th Inning Stretch. Cheeseburgers and Gluttony Night I staples hot dogs, French fries, pizza, ice cream, funnel cake and fountain drinks are the food items eligible for this all-you-can-eat promotion.

Cheeseburgers will be available at the Grand Slam Grill in the right field food court and at the Fairgrounds Square Mall Third Base Picnic Area.

Fans that already have a ticket to the August 26 game can just purchase an all-you-can-eat wristband for $10.

The opportunity to purchase combo tickets or wristbands will be limited to the first 3,000 fans that ... um ... belly up, so that the team can give the Gluttons an opportunity to consume as much food as possible.

Combo tickets or wristbands for Gluttony Night II can be purchased at the FirstEnergy Stadium box office, by phone (610-375-8469) and online at www.readingphillies.com. Young gluttons, ages 4 years old and younger, are free - including a free wristband - unless they'd need a reserved seat, which can be purchased for $5.00. (Food wristband still free).

On Gluttony Night I, the Gluttons alone set a stadium record by devouring 4,549 hot dogs (1.77 per). That topped the previous high of 4,275 sold on Father's Day 2008.

In addition to the hot dogs, 1,395 slices of pizza (0.5 per glutton), 2,857 orders of French fries (1.1), 4,870 sodas (1.9), 1,494 helpings of ice cream (0.58) and 1,432 funnel cakes (0.56) were consumed by those who took part.

Of the 6,345 tickets sold for Gluttony Night I - the largest Tuesday night crowd in May this decade - 2,576 fans took part in the promotion. The 2,576 Gluttons devoured $19.00 worth of food for a $7 Gluttony Night I wristband - which did not include cheeseburgers and offered one less hour to eat.

Fans with Gluttony Night II wristbands will be permitted one of each item per trip to the designated concession stands.

Fittingly, with the addition of cheeseburgers, in a place some fans have called paradise, and the feeding frenzy theme, Gluttony Night II is also a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Night featuring the Parrot Head Band "Havana Buddha". The band will perform in the Classic Café in the right field food court - directly across from one of the cheeseburger stands - from 5:00-6:30 PM. "Cheeseburger in Paradise" and other Buffett tunes will also be prominent on the FirstEnergy Stadium sound system throughout the ballgame. Gluttony Night II is being made possible thanks to Rock Hits Y-102, Pepsi, Stroehmann and Salino's.
