NORFOLK, Va. - John Gibson's first shutout of the season led the Norfolk Admirals to a 3-0 victory against the Worcester Sharks Friday night at Scope Arena.

The Admirals opened up the scoring more than halfway through the first period. Heatley started the play along the boards and shoveled a pass to Josh Manson near the blue line, who fed Charlie Sarault in the right ring. Sarault circled into the slot around a defender and snapped a shot off the far post at 12:41, giving Norfolk the 1-0 advantage.

With just over a minute left in the opening frame, Andrew O'Brien extended the Admirals' lead. Stationing himself at the blue line, O'Brien ripped one through traffic towards the Worcester net. The puck found its way past goaltender Aaron Dell at 18:56 to put Norfolk up by two.

The scoreboard went unaffected until Worcester pulled Dell for the extra attacker at the tail end of the third period. Chris Wagner took advantage of the empty cage, skating up ice and flicking the puck home from the neutral zone with just 33 seconds left. His unassisted goal capped the 3-0 victory for the Admirals.

Gibson stood strong between the pipes to grab a shutout, recording 36 saves. Dell saved 26 out of 28 shots that he faced. Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with Norfolk going 0-for-1 and Worcester blanked on all six opportunities.

The Admirals now improve to 19-23-3-2 with the win, and will face the Sharks again tomorrow night at Scope Arena at 7:15 p.m.

Three Stars:

1) NOR #36 John Gibson (36 saves)

2) NOR #51 Dany Heatley (2 A)
