HAMILTON, ON, CANADA - The Iowa Wild (17-29-1-1, 36 points) defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs (22-18-6-0, 50 points) 5-3 in front of 3,745 fans on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. Iowa defenseman Jon Blum scored twice, and forwards Brady Brassart, Zack Phillips and Kurtis Gabriel also added tallies as the Wild ended Hamilton's six-game winning streak. Iowa goalie Darcy Kuemper (2-2-0) stopped 23 of 26 Bulldogs' shots for his second straight win. Hamilton goalie Joey MacDonald (7-8-3) suffered the defeat with 20 saves on 24 shots. I owa visits Toronto at 2 p.m. (CT) on Feb. 7, continuing a four-game road trip.
The Bulldogs claimed a 1-0 lead at 15:13 of the first period off David Carr's 10th goal of the season. Sven Andrighetto and Eric Tangradi each had a hand in the period's only goal. Hamilton edged Iowa 11-10 in first-period shots.
At 9:48 of the second period, Hamilton claimed a 2-0 lead with a goal by defenseman Jared Tinordi. Bulldogs leading scoring Charles Hudon had the lone assist on Tinordi's first goal of the season. Iowa countered to trim the deficit in half at 11:53. Defenseman Jon Blum tallied his seventh goal of the year for the 2-1 score. Forwards Stephane Veilleux and Ryan Walters each had an assist on the tally. The Wild pulled even with the Bulldogs at 17:53 of the second period as Zack Phillips scored his sixth goal of the year. Defenseman Stu Bickel and forward Jason Gregoire each had an assist on the play, as the two teams went to the locker room tied 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.
Iowa charged out of the gates in the third, scoring 1:29 into the frame to move ahead 3-2. Rookie Brady Brassart found the back of the net for his fourth tally of the season. Fellow rookies Kurtis Gabriel and Joe Perry each had an assist on the goal. Perry's point marked the first of his AHL career in his first AHL game. Hamilton countered to tie the game 3-3 at 6:19 of the third period. Carr snapped home his 11th goal of the season after he was set up by Hudon and defenseman Greg Pateryn. The Wild moved back in front off Gabriel's fourth goal of the season at 9:53 of the final frame. Bickel and Brassart each had an assist on the even-strength tally. Iowa finished off the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:01. Defenseman Jon Blum scored his eighth goal of the season from goalie Darcy Kuemper for the 5-3 final.
Iowa continues on a four-game road trip with stops in Hamilton and Toronto, including the next game on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Toronto. The Wild returns home at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 13 to face the Texas Stars, the start of a three-game home stand. Before Friday's game, the Wild is holding a Career Fair from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission to the Career Fair is free, and any participants taking part in the fair receives a free ticket to Friday's game. On Saturday Feb. 14, Iowa hosts Texas and is celebrating Pink in The Rink. The first 7,500 fans at Saturday's game receive a pink LED light, presented by Susan G. Komen of Iowa and 1700 The Champ. As part of Pink In The Rink, Iowa dons pink-in-the-rink themed specialty jerseys. After the game, the team is holding a live postgame jersey auction, with the proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen of Iowa. Fans may purchase the Brewdog Pack, presented by Legends American Grill. The package starts at $15 per fan, consisting of a ticket, a Wild puck, a hot dog and a beer at the game. Fans also receive a beer at Legends American Grill - downtown location.
Iowa finishes its three-game home stand at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb.15 against the Oklahoma City Barons. Sunday's game is Crash's birthday party, where the team celebrates with a superhero and mascot party. Numerous local mascots and super heroes will be on hand to help ring in Crash's big day. The first 1,500 fans at Sunday's game will receive an Iowa Wild insulated lunch bag, sponsored by Star 102.5. Fans may purchase the More 104 Subway Combo Pack, which starts at $12 per person, including a ticket, a hot dog, a soda and a Subway coupon.
The Iowa Wild 2014-15 season is presented by Mercy Medical Center, it runs from October through April. Fans may purchase seats to see any of the team's 38 regular season home games at Wells Fargo Arena. Season tickets to see the Wild play at Wells Fargo Arena start at just $9 per game.
