Bulldogs Fall to Wild 5-3

HAMILTON, ONT. - The Hamilton Bulldogs' (22-18-6-0) season-high, six-game winning streak came to an end tonight with a 5-3 loss to the Iowa Wild (17-29-1-1) at FirstOntario Centre.

GAME SUMMARY

At 15:13 of the first period, Bulldogs forward Daniel Carr buried a loose puck from the slot for his 10th goal of the season to open the scoring, assisted by forwards Sven Andrighetto and Eric Tangradi.

Near the midway point of the second period, 'Dogs defenceman Jarred Tinordi potted a snap shot from the point for his first goal of the season to give his club a 2-0 lead. Forward Charles Hudon collected the only assist.

Just over two minutes later, Wild defenceman Jonathon Blum narrowed his team's deficit to 2-1, with assists from forwards Stephane Veilleux and Brett Sutter.

At 17:53 of the middle frame, Iowa forward Zack Phillips tied things up a 2-2, assisted by defenceman Stu Bickel and forward Jason Gregoire.

Eighty-nine seconds into the third period, Wild forward Brady Brassart fired a wrist shot high glove side and beat Bulldogs goaltender Joey MacDonald to take a 3-2 lead. Forwards Kurtis Gabriel and Joe Perry earned assists.

Carr scored his second of the night and 11th of the season at 6:19 of the third period to tie the game 3-3 when he redirected a cross-ice pass from Hudon at the edge of the Iowa crease. Defenceman Greg Pateryn had a second assist on the play.

With 10:07 left to go in regulation, Gabriel put the Wild ahead again, 4-3, with a wrister high glove on MacDonald. Bickel and Brassart had assists.

Blum added an empty netter, assisted by goaltender Darcy Kuemper, with 59 seconds to go to seal the win for Iowa, 5-3.

MacDonald made 20 saves on 24 shots for the Bulldogs in the loss, while Kuemper stopped 23 of 26 shots faced for the Wild in the win.

Hamilton didn't see a power play on the night, while Iowa was 0-for-2 with a man advantage.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they'll visit the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio at 7 p.m. The 'Dogs will return home on Tuesday, Feb. 10 when they'll host the Wild at FirstOntario Centre at 7:30 p.m.
