Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Grand Rapids, MI--Goalie Tom McCollum stopped 32 shots to lead the Grand Rapids Griffins to a 6-2 win over the Admirals Wednesday night.
Milwaukee finished the season series against the Griffins with a record of 3-5-1-1.
Anthony Mantha gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead at 4:36 of the first period when he blasted a slapshot from the top of the right circle into the net for a power play goal.
The Griffins made it 2-0 when Andy Miele deflected a Brennan Evans shot from the left point past Admirals goalie Magnus Hellberg at 11:16 of the first period.
Milwaukee used a Colton Sissons deflection to get on the scoreboard at 16:50 of the first period. Defenseman Taylor Aronson's pass to the slot was deflected to Johan Alm at the left point. Alm sent a wrist shot to the goal and Sissons deflected it into the goal for his 24th tally of the season.
The Griffins grabbed a 3-1 lead at 4:36 of the second period. Mantha forced a turnover behind the Milwaukee net and fed a quick pass into the slot for Andreas Athanasiou. Athanasiou buried the shot for his 15th goal of the season.
Grand Rapids made it 4-1 when Martin Frk scored his fifth goal of the season just 29 seconds after Athanasiou's goal. That goal ended that stretch of the night for Admirals goalie Hellberg, who was replaced by Marek Mazanec.
Athanasiou scored a shorthanded breakaway goal at 12:29 to give the Griffins a 5-1 lead at 12:29 of the second period.
Admirals forward Triston Grant scored his career-best 13th goal of the season at 16:57 of the second period to bring the score to 5-2. Grant's goal was assisted by Viktor Arvidsson and Mazanec.
Mark Zengerle gave the Griffins a 6-2 advantage when he scored his 14th goal of the season at 8:35 of the third period. After that goal, Hellberg replaced Mazanec in Milwaukee's net.
Milwaukee returns to the BMO Harris Bradley Center to host Chicago Fri., Apr. 10 at 7pm.
