Admirals Sign Two During Weekend Road Swing
November 16, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals signed forward Steve Mele and goaltender Brent Troyan this past weekend.
Mele, 26, is the brother of Admirals forward Tommy Mele and made his debut for Norfolk on Saturday at Reading. Steve went scoreless in the two-game set against the Royals after being signed from the Huntsville Havoc in the Southern Professional Hockey League. Mele's ECHL career goes back to the 2012-13 season with Greenville where he had two goals and two assists in nine games. The 5-foot-11 and 175-pound winger skated in a total of 71 career games in the ECHL prior to joining the Admirals, with Greenville, South Carolina, Utah, Tulsa, and Kalamazoo. The Bronx native owns nine goals and 20 points in ECHL play.Â
Troyan, 26, became the fourth goaltender on the Admirals' roster after backup Nic Riopel suffered an injury from a collision during Friday night's game at Elmira. With two Norfolk netminders injured, Troyan stepped in as Ty Rimmer's emergency backup, and currently remains with the team. A native of Johnstown, Pa., Troyan has never actually entered a regular season game in the ECHL despite providing Gwinnett, Johnstown, Kalamazoo, Reading, Florida, Cincinnati, Utah, Greenville, Evansville and Norfolk with emergency backup services since the 2009-10 season. The 5-foot-10 and 161-pound goalie logged time in the Federal Hockey League, All American Hockey League, and Western States Hockey League.
