Norfolk Admirals News Release
In a wild first stanza, the Admirals and Sound Tigers exchanged four goals in a 4:39 span. Norfolk got on the board first on a back door power play tally at the 9:18 mark. Nathan Barrett took the puck from the corner, skated forward a couple of strides and sent a terrific pass past two defenders to Mark Cullen, who tapped it home. Two minutes later, Bridgeport's Robert Nilsson sent a shot that appeared to deflect off the skate of the Admirals' Steve Munn who was in front of the cage, knotting the score at 1-1.
It took Norfolk just over two minutes to regain the lead. After a James Wisniewski shot hit a body in front of the net, Martin St. Pierre scooped up the loose puck, and flipped it over the prone body of Wade Dubielewicz at 13:32. But 25 seconds later, Nilsson tied the game again with his second of the night, and the score was 2-2 after 20 minutes of play.
The Admirals didn't take long to regain the lead once again in the second frame. A faceoff in the Bridgeport zone went right to Dustin Byfuglien, who skated past a defender a snapped a shot top-shelf over the shoulder of Dubielewicz at the 1:39 mark. That would be the only score of the frame, and Norfolk held a 3-2 advantage with one period to play.
In the third period, Dave Karpa turned over the puck in the Sound Tigers' zone, and the Admirals' Mike Brown collected the biscuit, sending a shot on net. Dubielewicz stopped the initial shot, but Mark Cullen sent the rebound into the twine at 3:45 of the stanza. Thirteen minutes later, Cullen netted the hat trick when he skated from the corner to pick up the rebound of a Quintin Laing shot and send it top-shelf into the net to close out the scoring on the night.
Corey Crawford made 23 saves in net for the Admirals while Dubielewicz recorded 37 stops for Bridgeport.
Norfolk was 1-2 on the power play, and Bridgeport was 0-2.
