Bulldogs Drop 4-2 Decision to Marlies

Toronto, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped their second straight game, losing to the Toronto Marlies by a score of 4-2 on Sunday evening at Ricoh Coliseum. It was the ‘Dogs fourth consecutive loss to the Marlies, and dropped the Bulldogs record to 11-19-0-2.

Martin Sagat gave Toronto a 1-0 lead just 1:31 into the game with the Marlies shorthanded. Sagat intercepted a pass at the Toronto blueline, skated down the ice, and fired a shot from the right face-off circle over the blocker of Bulldogs goaltender Yann Danis.

The Marlies took a 2-0 lead at the 3:30 mark of the first period when Jeremy Williams' centering pass was one-timed by Bates Battaglia past Danis.

Hamilton cut Toronto's lead in half just 32 seconds later on a give-and-go play between Brad Winchester and Andrei Kostitsyn. After Winchester received a return pass from Kostitsyn, a Marlies defenseman knocked the puck off his stick, it slide along the ice and eluded Marlies goaltender J-F Racine.

Toronto restored their two-goal lead just 1:39 into the second period when Jay Harrison wired a snap shot from the point just under the cross bar with the Marlies on the power play.

Brad Leeb gave Toronto a three-goal lead at 12:15 when he rifled a one-time shot from the left face-off dot over the blocker of Danis.

Winchester netted his second of the game to make the score 4-2 at 17:48 when his shot deflected off the stick of Marlies defenseman Brendan Bell and went between the legs of Racine.

Despite outshooting Toronto in the third period by a margin of 10-8, Hamilton could not beat Racine in the final stanza.

Bulldogs goaltender Danis stopped 26 of 30 shots. Marlies netminder Racine made 27 saves to earn the victory.

Hamilton was 0 for 6 on the power play, while Toronto scored once on seven opportunities with the man-advantage.

The Bulldogs next action will take place on Thursday, December 22, when they travel to Cleveland to face the Barons. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
