Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits battled to a tie after the first, had two leads in the second period, but ultimately gave up five of the final six goals of the game in an 8-5 loss to the Norfolk Admirals on Friday night at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Christian Horn scored a power play goal at the 16:40 mark of the third period to give Norfolk a 6-4 lead, and it was that goal that stood to be the game-winning tally. Greenville gave Norfolk a scare heading into the third with a power play goal from newcomer Mathieu Foget to end the period.
Norfolk struck for a pair, including Horn's second of the night at 8:28 to close out a two-on-one break that was the insurance tally, and an empty-net goal from Ben Holmstrom to put the game away for good.
The Swamp Rabbits took hold of the game on a pair of occasions in the second period. Tied at two, Liam Pecararo scored 38 seconds into the second period and surprised Roman Durny with a shot from the wing to take a 3-2 lead. Nathan Perkovich followed suit with a pinpoint shot from the base of the left circle to give the club a 4-3 advantage.
Norfolk tied it on both occasions, and took the lead halfway through the second on Austin McEneny's goal, which started a 2-for-3 power play night for the visitors.
The two teams battled to a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes. Every time the Admirals got the lead, Greenville responded. First, it was Alex Rodriguez two minutes in, then five minutes later, Matt Marcinew. Ryan Salkeld gave Norfolk the lead, but Michael Pelech had the answer just two minutes later.
Both teams combined for 83 shots, and three power play goals on five opportunities.
The Greenville Swamp Rabbits will travel to a galaxy far, far away on Saturday, December 28 at 6:05 p.m. for Star Wars Night. For tickets, go to SwampRabbits.com.
