Norfolk Admirals News Release
ELMIRA, NY - The Norfolk Admirals (37-14-4-1) fell 4-1 to the Binghamton Senators (16-29-2-5) on Saturday night at First Arena in Elmira, New York .
The Senators out-shot the Admirals 13-8 in the opening period, and goaltender Corey Crawford made several big saves for Norfolk. A late first period Binghamton power play led to the only tally of the period. Cory Pecker scored on a backdoor play after Crawford lost his stick and a defender crashed into the Norfolk net. The goal at 18:53 gave the Senators a 1-0 lead after one period.
The Admirals came out of the gates firing in the second stanza, as they set a new season high for shots in a period with 21 second period shots. One of those shots found its intended target 14:30 into the period to tie the game at 1-1. Adam Burish circled behind the net and sent a backhanded wraparound just inside the left post in front of Binghamton netminder Jeff Glass' left leg.
The Admirals once again out-shot the Senators in the third period, but it was Binghamton that dented the twine three times to pull ahead for good. Jeff Heerema tallied just as a Senators' power play ended 51 seconds into the final frame. Matt Koalska scored the first penalty shot goal against the Norfolk Admirals in franchise history at 7:32. Pecker iced the game with an empty-net tally at 18:38.
Crawford (34 shots, 31 saves) picked up the loss. Glass (44 shots, 43 saves) earned the victory for Binghamton .
The Admirals were 0-5 on the power play. Binghamton was 1-5.
