Rats finally win one against the Bears

HERSHEY returned to action after a seven-day layoff Saturday, and the River Rats used it to their advantage Saturday night. Albany broke a six-game losing streak in 2006-07, and a 19-game losing streak overall as they won 3-1 Saturday night at GIANT Center.

The Rats came out flying in the first period with two quick goals. Matt Murley scored his 14th goal of the season with a power play marker at 4:44 Just 15 seconds later, Jakub Petruzalek scored his seventh of the season at 4:59 at even strength to lift the Rats into a 2-0 advantage. HERSHEY was held off the scoreboard during the first 20 minutes, and was outshot by Albany 14-9.

Albany continued their dominance early in the second period with a goal just 14 seconds in. Antti Laaksonen scored his third goal in two games for the Rats to give the River Rats a 3-0 lead. The BEARS would finally break onto the scoreboard late in the second period when Kip Brennan scored his first goal as a HERSHEY skater. The goal from Jakub Klepis at 17:32 pulled the BEARS within two at 3-1, with neither team scoring the rest of the middle period. The Rats fired 12 shots at BEARS goaltender Nolan Schaefer in the second, while Albany's Tyler Weiman faced eight from the HERSHEY offense. The BEARS outshot the Rats 19 to five in the third period, but could not score in the final 20 minutes.
