
Falcons Host Sharks Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Worcester Sharks will meet for the eighth time this season tonight at the MassMutual Center starting at 7:05 PM presented by Dream Catchers Furniture. Saturday night will also mark the fifth and final time the Sharks will head to Springfield this season with the remaining two games of the season series being played at the DCU Center on February 28 and March 4.
The Falcons are 4-3 against the Sharks this season, including 2-2 at the MassMutual Center. Springfield beat Worcester in the last meeting between these two teams back on January 20 when the Birds skated away with a 2-1 victory. After remaining scoreless for 40 minutes of play back on January 20, the Falcons used a pair of third period goals from Blair Jones and Eric Healey to take away the two points.
Healey leads all Falcons players in scoring against Worcester this season with four goals and six assists for 10 points in seven games played, while center Daniel Corso is second on the club with two goals and six assists for eight points in six games against the Sharks this season. Goaltender Jonathan Boutin has posted a record of 2-0 with a 0.46 goals against average and .983 save percentage in two games against Worcester this year, including a shutout back on December 9.
Worcester center Josh Prudden leads the Sharks in scoring against the Falcons this season with one goal and four assists for five points in five games played. Center Mike Iggulden leads the Sharks in goals against Springfield this year with three.
The Falcons enter tonight's game having lost to the Providence Bruins 3-2 Friday night at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Eric Healey and Marek Kvapil scored for the Falcons, while goaltender Karri Ramo was once again steady in goal stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced. Springfield saw their record fall to 23-31-0-2 on the season and remain in seventh place in the Atlantic Division standings. The Falcons remain five points behind sixth place Lowell and seven points behind fifth place Portland. Springfield will conclude their weekend on Sunday when they host Lowell at the MassMutual Center.
The Sharks invade "The Nest" winless in their last four games posting a record of 0-2-2-0 in that span. Worcester was blanked by the Hartford Wolf Pack 3-0 last night having been outshot 35-15 in the contest. The Sharks remain in fourth place in the Atlantic Division standings with a record of 24-19-3-6 good for 57 points.
500 PRO GAMES FOR MILLEY: Falcons captain Norm Milley extended his scoring streak to three straight games collecting one assist Friday night in Providence. Milley has one goal and three assists for four points in his last three games. Milley is second on the team in scoring with 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points in 50 games and tonight will be Milley's 500th career pro game, including 471 career AHL games and 29 NHL contests.
INCHING CLOSER FOR HEALEY: Falcons leading scorer Eric Healey will play in his 496th career AHL game tonight and the veteran continues to inch closer to 500 career AHL contests. Healey leads the Falcons in scoring with 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points in 56 games.
399 FOR CAVANAUGH: Falcons center Dan Cavanaugh will play in his 399th career AHL game tonight at the MassMutual Center. Cavanaugh is in his sixth professional season and has split time between Houston, Philadelphia and Springfield during his AHL career.
ALL-STAR RECALLED TO SAN JOSE: Worcester all-star Mathieu Darche was recalled to Worcester's NHL affiliate, the San Jose Sharks this week after leading Worcester in scoring for a good portion of the season with 25 goals and 28 assists for 53 points in 51 games played. Darche also leads Worcester in power play goals this year with 13.
