Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Rosemont, IL - The Milwaukee Admirals got 34 saves from goaltender Mark Dekanich, but it wasn't enough as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chicago Wolves in game seven of the West Division Semifinals on Monday night at the All-State Arena.
This is the second consecutive season that the Admirals have battled back from a three games to one deficit to force a game seven before falling in the series' decisive game. Last season Milwaukee dropped a 5-2 decision to Houston Aeros in the seventh game of the West Division Finals.
The Wolves got on the board first when Anthony Stewert fired a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Dekanich at 12:29 of the first.
Less than 90 seconds later it would be 2-0 Chicago when Kevin Doell scored his third goal of the series with 6:03 remaining in the first. Riley Holzapfel slipped around through a Milwaukee check, went behind the net and attempted a wrap-around that was stopped by Dekanich but the rebound went right to Doell who had a wide open net to shoot.
Milwaukee got their only goal of the game at 3:01 of the second on a power play tally by Marty Murray. The Ads forward ripped a one-timer five-hole on a screened Peter Mannino for his second of the playoffs to cut the deficit in half.
The third period produced plenty of action, but neither team was able to get on the board. Dekanich was pulled with 1:05 to play in favor of an extra attacker but the Admirals couldn't get the equalizer.
